A Crossdressing Sports Fan! Holy Cow!

by Jessica De Leon on May 11, 2009

One of my favorite traits is not being afraid to be myself, even if what I do seems to break the “norm”. Along those lines, some people may believe that crossdressers obsess about makeup, dresses, hair and shoes all day every day. Well, I suppose that can be true for me to an extent; however, it’s not my only interest in life. As a blogger, I feel it necessary to always show that I am a “well-rounded” person in the hopes of dispelling some stereotypes about crossdressers.

I’ve always been a passionate sports fan, I mean, being from Chicago it’s almost a requirement. I know, I know. Stop the presses! The only people who could be so enthusiastic about sports must be the most manly macho men in all of the world! I play and watch football, baseball, basketball, hockey, tennis, and even sometimes soccer.

As I’ve posted before in “I Think, Therefore I Crossdress”, I once believed that “Jessica” was a totally separate entity as far as my personality is concerned. No way I could dress head-to-toe as a female and think about sports or anything else considered “manly”, right? As I’ve said before, it was a huge hurdle that I lept in discovering that all along I was just one big happy yet eccentric personality.

So, imagine for a moment if you will, a 28 year old dude dressed like a lady, sitting on the couch watching the Cubs game. It may strike you as implausible or even odd, but for me it’s not out of the ordinary. This perhaps may strike up even more confusion and questions in people.

Our society tends to dictate how we should act moreso than reflecting how we actually do. Without much effort, I am delicately toeing the line between masculinity and femininity.

These are American sports we are talking about, where some would say there is no room for softness or femininity. In fact, I remember something from playing organized football back in middle school. Our coach, at the end of each practice, gave out the “pink panty” award to the player who performed the poorest. (How’s that for alliteration?).

Even female athletes are unfairly stereotyped as tomboys, lesbians or whatever else. In my opinion, their gender identity and sexuality is up to them, and should not affect our view of them as athletes. If ESPN were to break the news right now that my favorite athlete was gay, I wouldn’t care in the slightest. The point that I think that I am trying to make is that sports can but doesn’t always have to depend on gender identity.

One of the things that I hoped to do with my blog was getting the word out and proving myths about us false. This is certainly a bigger topic than myself, but I hope that I can get my opinions across so that we as crossdressers can be seen in the future as whole people rather than walking stereotypes.

Every year, more and more females are becoming sports fans. We also see a trend toward more female referees and sportscasters. This is a great trend in my opinion. Sports should be enjoyed by anyone who finds them interesting and exciting. Which leads me to a follow-up, which I will post tomorrow. Stay Tuned!

My wife thought it was amusing that I was dressed and watching the Bears game once. I just feel comfortable when I’m dressed, doesn’t matter what I’m doing. Even in high school I remember wearing panties to football practice once, they were white cotton, no one would notice unless they really really looked closely, and if they did I could have raised a few questions about them.

Yea, I would love to attend a Bears game in drag, nothing over the top, just ladies Bears gear. I think that I would have fun, but it would most likely never happen.

Not really into sports much but I do watch football sometimes – wearing whatever I happen to be dressed in at the time. While I don’t care for chick flicks (dressed or otherwise) I also watch war movies if one comes on while I’m dressed. What the heck, my wife likes them too anyway!

Yea, I used to feel like I couldn’t watch sports dressed, but now I wear whatever I want :)
