One of the best pieces of advice that I can give to my fellow crossdressers is to take care of your face. You must wash and moisturize at least twice a day if you want to maximize your results and keep your face looking great.
Normal Face Care
I usually wash my face with ProActiv, it does a great job keeping my breakouts to a minimum. I sometimes follow it up by using the Toner and Repairing Lotion but I always make sure to moisturize. I currently am using L’Oreal Futur-e Moisturizer and I think it does a wonderful job.
I also use an eye cream in the morning and night. I started using eye cream several months ago and have noticed remarkable changes that others have also seen. Currently I am using L’Oreal Advanced Vital Lift Eye.
[update 06/08/09: Do not neglect your neck, clean and moisturize it too!]
Do not forget to moisturize your lips throughout the day using some sort of lip balm. Your significant other will certainly appreciate this.
Before bed, I apply Aveeno positively ageless night cream.
Shaving Preparation & After Care
When shaving, I take a long hot shower because the steam and hot water help in preparing your face and hair for a shave. I leave my face wet and use Gillette Series Sensitive Skin shaving gel. I wait a minute then use a Gillette Fusion razor and shave with the direction of hair.
If I am going for a closer shave, I re-lather and shave against the grain, but ONLY after first shaving with the grain. After every couple of strokes, I rinse the blades in hot water to clean off the residue.
Once done, I rinse my face with cold water and pat it dry. It is very important that you never rub or scrub your face dry as this is damaging. Always pat, never rub.
When completely dry, I apply aftershave to my face. I use Nivea For Men’s Sensitive After Shave. After this dries, I moisturize the shaved area.
Of course, the products that you use may differ, but the spirit is the same. By following this or similar regimen, you can maintain and even enhance your face which will improve your overall look when you dress up.
