Makeshift Crossdressing

(68/365) Candle in the wind

Necessity is the mother of invention. When times are tough and our backs are against the wall we somehow find a way to pull through. If you’ve been following me on twitter or facebook you may have read about my rough weekend. If not, don’t worry because I will bring you up to speed.

There was a motorcyle parked right outside of our apartment that somehow sprung a leak Saturday morning, spilling gasoline and filling the air with fumes. Also, the toilet had been giving us problems earlier in the day and plunging it proved no solution. When we got back from our date on Saturday evening, we were greeted with a terrific surprise (note sarcasm). A sewer line had backed up through our shower drain and flooded the bathroom.

It was absolutely disgusting and frustrating, but as we had nowhere else to go, I did my absolute best to fix the situation. I called a 24 hour “emergency” plumber but they never showed. So I shut the bathroom door, cranked up the AC and air filter, lit two sticks of incense and five candles. I couldn’t open the windows because of the aforementioned gasoline spill. Far from our best evening, we drifted off to sleep more comfortable than we would have been had I not done these things.

After the plumber fixed the problem the next day I went to the local superstore and picked up a super absorbent cloth, extra strength carpet odor eliminator and more candles. I spent the next several hours trying my best to dry and deodorize the carpet. Ok, I swear that I am tying this back to crossdressing.

This innovation reminded me of times during childhood when I felt the compulsion to crossdress but simply did not have ample opportunities to do so. Sure, I had borrowed my mother’s dress a couple of times, but the rest of the time I was left with nothing of my own. I was an artist with no paintbrush or canvas.

Never satisfied with failure, I would stretch a tee shirt vertically and when it was long enough, I wore it by itself with a belt tied high on my waist. This was my very own makeshift dress. Because I had no wig, I used a brown bath towel wrapped around my head as hair. By doing this, I was able to “crossdress” without actually owning any women’s clothing.

Nowadays, I’m quite the diva when it comes to fashion (my wife can attest) and have become quite the high-maintenance chick. I wonder how much these necessities fostered my creativity. Did you come up with different ways of dressing when you had no clothes or did you just not dress until you could find some?

Was crossdressing ever the mother of invention for you?

Jessica,

I am so proud of you. Your creativity and ability to facilitate your crossdressing needs (even when life throws you a curve ball) has shown me how much you have grown in such a short time. I am so contented that you are no longer looking for perfect moments; rather, you are creating your own. I love you so much.
Your Loving Wife,

Rebecca

Even when I had no clothes, I would bleach red tees and tanks pink, and paint my toenails with a red marker, and stay completely shaved. Even under my guy clothes at work, I still felt femme.
