A digital dinosaur that spits eggs from her mouth is today’s Mainstream Crossdressing feature, let me take a moment to explain. Birdo, known as Catherine in Japan, is thought by some to be the first transgendered video game character.
Birdo first appeared in the NES game Super Mario Bros 2 and according to the North American instruction manual, Birdo was a dude that though he was a girl. While I used to play this game a ton, I never had the instruction manual and didn’t learn about this until later. Special thanks to regular reader Gaven for sending in the link.
Interestingly enough, in later games Birdo is referred to as female, leading many (including myself) to believe that Birdo fully transitioned and is now living her dream. Perhaps it’s because of this that while she was once an evil area boss, she is now a friend to Mario and the gang.
She’s got quite a nice sense of fashion, too. Note the cute bow and fabulous ring that she rocks

Is she really the first? Why is it that Pac Man and Ms. Pac Man never appear in the same game? (Funny if it’s true, but since I know doodly squat about video games this theory might easily be shot down in flames by the next commenter…)
LOL, yea Pac Man and Ms Pac Man met for the first time in 1983, in the game … wait for it.. Ms. Pac Man…
But…. I suspect Pac Man may try on his wife’s heels from time to time
yeah I play enough games to notice that Birdo started being seen as a she. I think it’s more of a censorship thing but we can dream :p
Yea Nintendo’s been mum, but I heard that in the Japan only game “Captain Rainbow” she is part of the cast and her gender is referenced. Haven’t played the game because it’s in Japanese but maybe one day it’ll get released in English.
Well, She looks like she can give one heck of a BJ. lol.
plus if she spits eggs from her mouth, i would mean that her genitals are in her mouth!
Displaying her “mouth” for all the world to see might be the reason why she’s married too! hence the ring on her finger.
This Birdo character just got a whole lot more interesting.
