Joe Namath is a hall of fame quarterback who played most of his career with the New York Jets. He is most known for leading New York over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. To call them underdogs would be an understatement, yet Namath guaranteed a victory and subsequently backed it up.
Namath was also known for his flashiness, on and off the field. As an example, take a look at what he is wearing while seated on the bench with his teammates — a fur coat! Perhaps because of his nature, he was signed by beautymist to be a spokesperson for their pantyhose.

As B said in a comment, it is a bit of a downer that Joe states his disclaimer “I don’t wear pantyhose”. Also note that toward the end of the advertisement a woman snuggles up next to him to reinforce his sexuality. However, I didn’t let that bother me and I really enjoyed this commercial, thanks again B!

I remember an episode of the Carol Burnett Show when Dick Van Dyke was a “regular” (the final season, perhaps). They did a take off on this add, with Dick donning the pantyhose. It got a BIG laugh, as I recall.

I think I remember a Carol Burnett show piece . If I remember it right there was a curtain with several mode. The curtain was at first raised high a nuff to see to upper mid-thighs. To several pairs of legs. At first I thought they were legs of girls. They wearing high heels, nylons nice legs. The crowd were asked who had the best legs. The crowd choice who had best ones. And the curtain was raised all the way up! And to show who the model was! And low-and-behold all the models were men in nylons and heels! I don’t know which one it was. Sorry !!
