Philips Norelco Bodygroom Shaver Review

by Jessica De Leon on October 13, 2009

Jessica’s Judgment is a series at Jessica Who? in which we review clothes, shoes, makeup, accessories and products related to cross-dressing. We break our reviews into useful sections and then give a final verdict and score.

It has been several months since our last installment of Jessica’s Judgment, but it is something that I’ve wanted to incorporate back into the blog every so often to recommend or warn against products particularly relating to crossdressers.

Two years ago I purchased the Philips Norelco Bodygroom Shaver because, I wanted an easier and more convenient way of removing my body hair, especially when I was going to get dressed up. After seeing several advertisements for it, I finally decided to take the plunge and buy it. How does the Bodygroom fare against Jessica’s Judgment?

The Accessories

The Bodygroom comes with three guards facilitating different trimming lengths. This comes in handy if you need to clip down excessively long hairs before going for a closer shave. They’re pretty easy to snap on and off, but I didn’t find them quite as effective as a normal sized set of clippers.

It also comes with a standard cleaning brush for getting out the leftover shavings from inside the razor.

Features

One of the biggest draws of this razor is that it is water-resistant. I’ve used it both dry and in the shower with great results each time.

The Bodygroom is cordless and comes with a charger base. Philips claims 50 minutes of cordless use per 8 hours of charge time and I have to agree with them, though battery life does decrease over time — typical of all rechargeable batteries.

It comes in manly blue so you don’t even have to make an excuse ;)

Performance

So, the bodygroom looks nice and has some fancy features, but how well does it function?

I must say that this is the best electric razor that I have ever used in my life, because it really does the job. Honestly, life is hectic and you don’t always have time to go for a wax or even lather up and shave with a razor. The Bodygroom allows you to get a very close shave in a short amount of time, without the need for shaving cream or water.

The Bodyroom is surprisingly gentle, even on the most, *ahem*, intimate of areas and I’ve never nicked or cut myself using this razor. It can be used on literally every part of the body — arms, legs, underarms, stomach, chest, feet, hands, etc — though I wouldn’t recommend using it on your face. Not that it wouldn’t work,  it just creeps me out and I’ve never done it.

I clean the blades regularly and they have remained sharp for two years, however it’s probably time for me to get a replacement blade. It’s also convenient for travelling, since it’s so small.

The Verdict

The Philips Norelco Bodygroom Shaver is an amazing product for the price ($33.99) and stands up to the test of bushy hair and time. During the past two years, I have been able to depend on this electric razor to give me a good close shave without fear of personal injury. Like I’ve said, I wax when I have the time and money but this is my second option when getting ready to dress up.

I highly recommend this razor to anybody who has extra body hair that they would like to get rid of in the comfort, and I emphasize comfort, of their own home.

Final Score: 9.5 out of 10

Do you know of a product related to crossdressing that you would like me to review? Curious to know if that doohickey you saw on TV works? Just send in an email and we’ll try our best to write up a detailed review.

Thank you for this post.

I’ve been using a Philips Satinelle ladyshave (epilator) for the longest time with pretty good results but as I’ll be starting hormones (relatively) soon it’ll be smarter to switch to shaving instead of epilating. This may be exactly what I should be getting. Not a bad price either!

I just recently purchased this product also! That’s too funny. It does work very well tho to say the least! I think it works great when you have long hair that would get caught in the basic male / female razors. Tho it doesn’t work well for me when I have stubs still that need to be removed to feel uber smooth, so after the body shaver, I use the basic razors. With that being said, I am no longer afraid to let my hair go when I don’t have the time to shave, thanks to the body shaver! WOO!

I’d like to share that I’ve tried the Nair heated body wax, with disappointing results. It was highly recommended by my drag hag and perhaps it just works better on girl’s body hair whilst .Ahem “ladies” like us require something stronger.

An epilator works wonders. but hurts like you’re ripping the skin off you legs… this brand of beauty comes at a price.

My favourite is the Veet Wax strips (now in cherry flavour). at least it comes in bursts of pain that lasts for only a second.

Loves Lavida.

I’ve had that Bodygroom Shaver for over a year now, and it trims my swingin’ peach basket just nicely. You don’t need to use the guards if you want a close trim, but don’t get too aggressive, it may bite (Trust me on this.)

And if you have paper-thin walls between you and your neighbor, be careful. Your neighbor might think that vibrating sound is something else you’re using next door.

Good call! I’ve got the model with the two different shaving heads, and I think it’s brilliant.

(Apologies if this is a duplicate post, my browser went screwy the first time I clicked on ‘submit’).

I’ve never liked shaving, because the razor stubble that quickly follows is so irritating, so bought an Emjoi epilator. Best decision I ever made!

I too have one of these I’ve used for about a year. Seems to me it has always worked better in the shower. Don’t drop it though. the foils get bent easily.
