Miss International Queen 2009 Beauty Pageant

by Jessica De Leon on November 3, 2009

Haruna Ai has been honored with the title of Miss International Queen 2009, a beauty pageant with substance held in Pattaya, Thailand. The twenty-one participants came from literally all over the world including the United States, Britain, Brazil, China and Singapore and are all male to female transsexuals.

However, even though this contest was full of staples like national costumes, cocktail dresses and pink swimsuits, there was also a more profound goal in mind, raising awareness. Many of the beauties have faced hardships due to their transgendered nature.

The thirty-seven year old Haruna is a television personality back in her home country of Japan as well as a singer and echoed the sentiments of the pageant’s greater purpose. Karngsadal Wongdusadeekul (Thailand) and Daniela Marques (Brazil) were the runners-up.

I think this is a great story and it would be nice if such a pageant was held here in the US, especially in a time where transgendered people are ostracized. Some would argue that beauty pageants are nothing more than female objectification but it is nice that the participants feel they are making a difference in this world by showing the rest of the world who they are.

In addition, the contest’s official website has a list of eight objectives including creating human rights awareness and help transgendered people to be more accepted in society.

Congratulations to Haruna Ai and the rest of the contestants!

They had a pagent in Vegas a few yearas ago that was poorly orginized. This one looks rather well done. Not only do these ladies have strength, courage and wisdom but most are gorgeous. Its so nice to see these girls have their night to shine and show the world that we just want to be like everyone else.
