More National Crossdresser’s Days?

by Jessica De Leon on November 5, 2009

Thanksgiving weekSo, another Halloween has come and gone and you didn’t dress in drag. You’re kicking yourself because this was the one chance that you had to put on that hot dress, unbox those cute pumps and let the wind blow through that wig you got on eBay for real cheap.

Perhaps you did go en femme for All Hallow’s Eve and you had a life-altering experience but sadly, you packed up all your girly items and shoved them right back in the closet. A single tear fell down your cheek as you thumbed through your 2010 calendar in order to circle next October 31st with a pink permanent marker.

Well, what if I told you that there were a couple more opportunities to cross-dress and pass it off as celebration of the holiday?

With a little imagination and a good convincing argument, it is possible to doll yourself up and be amongst people before next year’s Hallowe’en.

Thanksgiving

Why not commemorate this great American tradition by clothing yourself in the garb of a female Pilgrim or Native American woman? If anyone gives you any grief over your interesting choice in apparel immediately defend your actions by informing them that you are really into historical reenactments and this is all they had left at the costume shop on such short notice. Better yet, accuse them of forgetting the true meaning of Thanksgiving.

Christmas

Oh sure, let Santa have all the fun. While he gets fat off cookies and milk, we all know who does the real work behind the scenes. Duh, it’s Mrs. Claus ;) . As you transform into Kris Kringle’s wife remember that you must never break character, especially in front of the children. Tell all the kids that while ol’ St. Nick is out galavanting and drinking too much egg nog with the elves, you’re busting your tail to make sure that all the presents get delivered on time.

Hannukah

Well, The Festival of Lights may not have an official mascot, but there was that one episode of Friends where Ross created the character “Holiday Armadillo” in order to get his son Ben excited about Hannukah. I’m not sure how one could feminize this costume, but hey, by all means. . .

Ross as Armadillo

Boxing Day

Here’s an easy one, a female pugilist!

Oh, so you’re telling me that Boxing Day is not a celebration of the Sweet Science*? Darn, there goes my idea!

* – Sweet Science is a nickname for boxing

You Get The Idea (I Hope ;) )

Sure, this post is meant in jest but the main point is that I hope you don’t limit yourself to only October 31st to express your feminine side. Yea, yea I know there’s a lot out there stopping you. But you only need one reason to be yourself.

What do you think of these ideas? Perhaps you’ve got some of your own? Leave a comment below on how we can femme-up the holidays.

Happy Holidays Girlfriends!

Please help me spread the laughs! If you chuckled at all during this post, please share it with someone else (email, twitter, facebook, messenger pigeon). Heck, if you even cracked a smile ;) . Thanks my dears!

Who needs holidays? If you’re into anime, manga, or sci-fi, there are conventions year round that afford plenty of opportunities to dress as your favorite female characters. Indeed, at most cons people pretty much dress however they like.

Cons skew towards a younger age group, teens to mid-twenties. But I’ve noticed the age trending upward as the fandom ages. So if you don’t mind hangin out with a younger crowd and having a good time, anime conventions may be the way to go. I’ll mention a few for starters, Anime Expo, Otakon, Akon, Anime Central, Anime Weekend Atlanta, and Dragon*Con. Dragon*Con is focused mostly on Sci-Fi and Fantasy, and its attendees are older, mid-twenties, thirties and up.

My green skirt and green blouse would be good for St Patrick’s Day.
New Years Eve should be good for something special.

May I suggest silk stockings, heels, and wigs in “imitation” of the founding fathers’ fashion choices? That’ll put the independence back into July 4th!

Ooh, another terrific suggestion, it’s beginning to sound like I need to make a Part 2!

More seriously ~ Mardi Gras Day! My first “out among friends” day was a MG party six or seven years ago. Alas, I had to wait until last month for my second “out among friends” day ~ I came to work all dressed up. Mine was the only costume.

Funny how costume is a matter of perspective: to the other employees, it was a costume because I was in drag. For me, it was a costume because I’m ALWAYS casual on casual Friday, and here I am in a dress and heels!

Interesting what you say is so true, it’s all perspective Meg.

Sounds like a great Mardi Gras party :D
