This Friday, November 20th marks a somber occasion for our community, The International Transgender Day of Remembrance. On this day, we take a step back to remember those who have been killed simply for being who they were, who they were with or in some cases who they were perceived to be.
There are a few TDOR events close to my area this weekend and I will be attending at least one. This will be my first time participating in such a gathering, as prior to this year I had never heard of this.
Intolerance, hatred and bigotry is all around us and violence against our community has to stop. People have died senselessly and we take this day to honor them.
If there is a Transgender Day of Remembrance gathering in your vicinity I highly suggest attending, to memorialize our fallen brothers and sisters. If you are unable to attend, please take a moment of prayer, silence, meditation or whatever it is that you do in order to be reverent for those we have lost.
In order to exact change we must be the ones to stand up against evil. We in the LGBT community must also remember to support one other instead of tearing each other down. A large portion of society is against us and what we stand for and only through unity can we progress as a people.

Yep it’ll be my first time attending events for this day too. There’s a candlelight vigil at UW in Seattle and some other things going on too, I think.
Great to hear, I feel like it’s the least we can do for those in our community who have been taken from this world for no good reason.
Hi Jessica!
I’m a new subscriber to Jessica-Who, but I wanted to take a moment to thank you for posting this reminder about the TDOR this year. As much fun as we all usually seem to have most of the time, it’s good to remember that there is still a lot of fear and hate in the world, and we need to do what we can to combat that. Thanks!

Welcome Dianna
.
You’re so right, thanks for the insight.
Very nice words. There is so much hatred in our world that we mask as religious beliefs. Ft Hood was a prime example. We must draw strength from our own group as the world in general is not over tolerant towards us but tries to be to politically correct in so many ways that it weakens the fabric of our country.
