Mainstream Crossdressing: Willem Dafoe

by Jessica De Leon on December 10, 2009

So I’m flipping channels a couple of days ago when I happen upon a movie called “The Boondock Saints” on TV. Before this, I had only heard about it only by name and had no idea what the movie was about. Actually, I still don’t know what it’s about but I just so happened to tune in at the right time.

There is a scene in which Willem Dafoe is dressed in drag from head to toe in order to infiltrate some house full of bad guys and he ends up taking a couple of them out. Again, I have no clue what was taking place but thought it was pretty cool to see The Green Goblin from Spiderman dressed as a woman.

I typically don’t watch movies like this (I prefer comedy, action and horror) so it was a happy accident finding this instance of crossdressing in Hollywood.

Here’s a video with various clips of Dafoe pieced together, his scene in drag comes in at the end.

Great actor in a new situation for him I guess. Make-up guys are
incredible these days. Trans are much more mainstream and any film that use crossdressing in any situation only re-enforces the place we all have in society. My greatest fear as always been of ridicule, I love being a girl from the inside out. This is not a game for me. It is who I am. Looking and feeling good is all I look for, no more, no less.
Thanks Jess,
Louise.

I’ve always liked Willem Dafoe. My two favorite movie rolls of his, were as bad boy Raven Shaddock, in the 1984 cult classic Streets of Fire, and his portrayal of Sgt. Elias in Platoon, two years later. I never thought I’d see him in drag, but when you’ve been in over 70 different movies, that’s bound to happen sooner or later.

He doesn’t look too bad, actually.

If you like comedy and action, I highly recommend seeing the whole movie. It has an interesting premise and some great dialogue.

Boondock Saints Jess, best…movie…ever. Completly forgot about that scene in it strangley enough. Seemed normal to me for some reason. Really ought to watch it. Bob Marley plays one of the detectives in it, he’s a Maine Commedian who is funny as hell.

On a side note my brother in law recently has open heart surgery, and he is a member of Bobs fanclub. So Bob, being true to his fans, visited him in the Hospital (I got the call afterwards dammit) but who did he bring with him? Why none other than his co-stars Sean Patrick Flanery (Conner McManus) and Brian Mahoney (detective) I mean how firggin cool is that right?

I concur with saying that you should watch the whole movie. It is a very funny action film. The sequel has been in pre-production for quite a while. It is one of those movies I can watch over and over.
