TRANSform Me is a new show on VH1 (it debuted this week) about makeovers — hair, makeup and wardrobe. Haven’t we seen this all before? Well, yes and no.
You see, even though TRANSform Me deals with taking women from drab to fab, the three women leading the way in their style revolutions were born male.
I watched the first episode, ready to see something offensive, outrageous or off-color. Would we see the typical obnoxious stereotype of trans women? Would there be drama and cat fights like we are accustomed to?
The show commenced and I awaited the first TRANSgression, but it never came. For the first time, I saw three women who TRANSitioned their bodies to match their inner selves being portrayed as normal people. Sure, there was a comment here and there in reference to being trans, but the bulk of the show was simply about taking a woman who didn’t feel pretty, giving her a makeover and then presenting her to the friends and family. Very standard, and that’s what I liked!
While I probably won’t be a regular viewer of TRANSform me (makeover shows aren’t my thing), I am very happy for the three hosts, who are very skilled in fashion, hair and makeup and have a chance to showcase their talents while furthering their careers. Sure, they are typical representations of what it means to be trans, but who is? We all come in different shapes, sizes and voice volumes.
I’ve embedded the premiere below for your viewing pleasure. Liked it? Hated it? Leave a comment below.

Wow this is awesome! Thanks for sharing! I don’t have cable so I wouldn’t have found out about it otherwise.
The girls seemed a bit on the hyper-feminine side but I think it was still interesting and they are very beautiful women all 3 of them.
No prob chica, same here (no cable).
This is good. I, too, am not a big fan of makeover shows, but this one does show Trans women in a god light.
Sorry – that should have been “good” light – not trying to give these 3 ladies more power than they really possess! ~~giggle~~
lol yea
It allows them to be known for something other than being trans, which is awesome
I gotta find out when this show is on, and watch it at least once to see for myself. It’s sounds like it could be more educational than mainly entertainment.
We could ALL learn a little bit from it.
True that
