My Husband Betty – An Essential Book

by Jessica De Leon on April 22, 2010

Several months before I began my journey of blogging, I was still very unsure of myself and the state of my transness. I still couldn’t quite accept Jessica and my wife was also having difficulty understanding what my crossdressing meant in the grand scheme of our lives. Though I had been to countless counseling sessions over the years and perused perhaps just as many different transgender websites, I was missing some key components that would help me get to the next level.

Reading a book about crossdressing had always been high on my list of things to do, but for one reason or another I never got around to it until late 2008. When I finally decided to make that step, there was only one tome that I had in mind, “My Husband Betty”. The praise that this book garnered spoke volumes and after checking a few stores I found a copy.

Couldn’t Put It Down

When I started reading it I found myself absolutely enthralled. The writing was excellent and the way that Helen Boyd detailed each chapter kept me from putting it down. In fact, I believe that I finished it in only three days — the fastest I had ever gotten through a book. Not for lack of abilitiy, but rather no other book had grabbed my attention quite like this one.

The life examples, third party accounts and advice reached me in ways I never thought possible. There’s a reason that when discussing transgender / crossdresser books Boyd’s masterpiece floats to the top of the conversation, it’s superb. I won’t ever forget the sense of accomplishment, pride and self-acceptance that I felt upon finishing the last page.

Back in Business

Boyd’s book impacted so much that it helped me to finally begin dressing up completely en femme for the first time since 2004. My wife and I began bonding more and talking more openly about my transness and soon enough I started this blog. There was absolutely no need for me to pick up another transgender book, because while I do like being introspective and such, after a bit I start to get bored.

My wife thumbed through “My Husband Betty” when I was through and I even convinced my mom to pick up a copy. I honestly don’t know where I’d be on my journey without this book, but I thank God that I’ll never have to know. As a matter of fact, I think it’s time for a reread.

I give my highest recommendation to this one, if you’re even slightly thinking about it, pick it up. You won’t be sorry.

Thank you Jessica. I have heard of this book before, but have never found a copy of it. I will definately visit her website for the details of obtaining it. The comments I have read about the book, all say the same thing….”it is essential to every crossdresser to read”….I’ll post some more comments after I’ve read it.

I have never heard of this one – I’ll put it on my Summer Reading List now, though. Thanks, Sweetie!

I always feel more compelled to read something when recommended by someone who felt great after reading something. I have trouble getting through books as they read to slowly for me.My mind races all the time. This could be different, thanks

I actually never did get to read this book. I read a similar one that was very good though called “My husband wears my clothes.” I strongly recommend it too.
