It’s time for our series of posts here at Jessica Who?, titled “Word of the Week”. In these short articles, from here on out published each Friday, I will explore the various labels and umbrella terms used to label us. By doing this, I hope to educate not only myself, but also anyone who may not be familiar with these terms. Feel free to add your own knowledge to each post by leaving a comment
.
The label that we will be examining is: Crossdressing
Standard Definition
the wearing of clothes designed for the opposite sex
Derogatory?
no
What’s It Really Mean?
Exactly as above.
My Take
What’s funny, and as many of us point out, a man wearing a blouse or a dress is considered to be crossdressing but a woman in a button up shirt, slacks and sneakers is not considered to be crossdressing.
It’s also worth noting that most hot-blooded men think that a woman in men’s clothing is sexy (especially when the men’s clothing is shrunken down).
I would say that most people crossdress at least once in their lifetime, it’s taboo yet appealing, even if just for some laughs. Also, not everyone who crossdresses considers themselves crossdressers — hope that makes sense.
Crossdressing men are almost always shunned in modern society, although not all cultures are like this.
Hopefully we will see the day where crossdressing truly becomes mainstream, maybe we’re not too far away? What do you think?

For many decades my dress was androgynous veering to the feminine. I never considered this cross dressing even though I was supposed to be a guy, I had hair on my face after all!
During this time if I was expected to dress as a male for any formal occasion even though I did it with my usual androgynous spin I considered that I was cross dressing and appearing in drag! It just felt wrong.
Now it is many years since I bought anything in the way of male clothing but I am sure many people assume that I’m cross dressing because of my size and testosterone induced features. The interesting thing is that I’ve never felt more comfortable in my own skin and my own clothes which now match my mind perfectly.
So when we say cross dressing is it from the perspective of the body or mind?

I have brought out the point of women can dress in mens clothing and its OK but men cant dress in womens cloths and be OK to many people. I ask why the double standard and no one can answer the question. It puts people in perspective of why should someone put down cross dressing based on such out dated thought.
I agree it is a double standard. I think standard is out of date. But who create the standards and why is the standards for women more altered to their acceptenes . But I feel the standards for the males are still in mid-twentify century. How they should dress. But womens are much more change though out the dozen of years. What do you think!
