Back in the early 80s, Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari starred in a wonderfully innovative sitcom where they played two young bachelors who crossdressed in order to live in a woman’s only building. From what I’ve heard, it’s a television classic.
Yes, that’s right — I haven’t seen it. . . yet. Trust me, it’s in my Netflix queue so I will get the pleasure very soon. Once I do, I’ll blog about it and try to share it with friends and family.
What you may not immediately know is that the show recently celebrated it’s 30 year anniversary.
Happy 30th Anniversary Bosom Buddies!
TV Land put together a reunion of the original cast for its latest awards ceremony. Jay Leno delivered a retrospective and the actors gathered on stage to receive an award for the series.
Unfortunately, I’m not able to embed the clip on my blog, but here is a link to the video. Just click ‘Bosom Buddies 30th Anniversary’ in the left column.
Is it me or is this just material just begging for a movie release? ![]()

For all that it was the concept for the show, the crossdressing aspect didn’t last long. From what I remember, the roommates eventually contrived a way to stay out of drag most of them time, and only appeared as their femme selves when a “sister” was needed to put in an appearance. Tom Hanks was the star, but I always thought Peter Scolari made a cuter girl.
Sad to hear that it didn’t last long
It’s been done on the big screen – it was called SOME LIKE IT HOT. (Not literally, but close enough!) But it was a very good show – and Tom Hanks has great legs!
Hehe, yea
I, too, have never seen this show, but I’ve heard about it over the years. Lately, my interest has been to watch older shows like Good Times, Jeffersons (was I black in another life?) and Roseanne. I wonder if All in the Family is still in rotation somewhere. Or better yet – What’s Happening!!! Ah, good times.
I need to start watching TV Land more often. The scripts of today’s TV sitcoms move so fast that they don’t give you enough time to let the joke hang there mid-air for a moment so you can really appreciate all the literary levels it can offer. Now it’s just cheap joke, cheap joke, cheap joke.
Thank goodness for my Golden Girls…they never fail me.
I love all of those shows, especially What’s Happening
The show was really nice, Two young guys, meeting some girls, not having much money, needed to stay in the all-girls hotel to get by. I thought it was me!
