Although our Mainstream Crossdressing series mainly focuses on MTF crossdressing / transgender tidbits, I am elated when I am able to write about the other side of our community, the FTM members.
Annie Lennox, former member of the immensely successful pop group Eurythmics, gained popularity during the 80s for her amazing talent and strikingly unique style. According to Wikipedia, she is an icon in the gay community for her career and activism, and is one of my earliest memories of FTM crossdressing.
FTM Crossdressing? What the Heck?
While most can agree that it’s difficult to distinguish FTM crossdressing from regular women’s dress because women wear pants, button down shirts and sneakers. However, there’s no denying that Annie Lennox is clearly bending the lines of gender by sporting short hair and a suit and tie.
That she wore feminine makeup together with this outfit makes it even more awesome. With both of these bold aspects, she successfully achieved an androgynous look. This look is arguably the most famous aspect of this popular video for the song, “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)”.
Curiously enough, this was one of my favorite songs as a child and my parents told me that I sung it word for word. If there were a cross-dressing Hall Of Fame, Ms. Lennox would certainly be a first-ballot entry!

She definately had a nice blend of both genders in her look. I also liked her Sweet Dreams song. I had no idea who she was or what she looked like. The musical groups can get away with dressing like they want. Look at Kiss for example. The Beatles were the first long haired group to hit the US
That’s a great point Leslee, I think stardom brings with it a certain creative leeway that regular folks just don’t get
This is certainly a very different way of looking at crossdressing.
I like it very much.
Me too, Warren
First video into my ipod, loved her from the first moment I heard this.
In the UK it was used as the theme tune to a programme about American Football! Interest in that has waned but the music goes on.
On a completely different subject, Salon has a post tonight about the French Vogue’s photo presentation of Lea T a transgendered model. I looks interesting. Love and hugs, Angie
Cool!
I looooove me some Annie. My favorite song is “Money Can’t Buy It”. I think that says it all.
I’ll have to look that one up and add it to my collection, thanks for the suggestion
You just blew my mind with this one!!!! Amazing connection… that is; the song and you. WOW! Muah!
Who am I to disagree?
