Mainstream Crossdressing: Garbage Pail Kids

by Jessica De Leon on July 13, 2010

Garbage Pail kids started off as a simple Cabbage Patch Kids parody, but exploded into a cultural phenomenon. As a child of the 80′s, I not only vividly remember these hilarious sticker cards but also still have them in my collection!

GPK cards specialized in the type of gross-out humor that we kids loved back then, featuring everything from flatulence to decapitation. I must say that these wonderfully entertaining cards were a huge influence on my sense of humor.

But, the question is, why include them in a post here?

Garbage Pail Kids with TG elements

All Garbage Pail Kids cards featured expertly drawn artwork featuring a dysfunctional person, to say the least. There were two cards for each piece of art, each with different names. The names were created to be funny, edgy and ironic.

Some of these cards featured elements of cross-dressing or being trans, and I will feature them below, starting with one that isn’t what it seems.

Harry Harriet/Bushy Bernice is not a trans girl but rather a very hairy biological girl.

Rock E. Horror / Marty Gras is a cross-dresser and an obvious reference to the Rocky Horror Picture Show

Half Nelson/Glandular Angela represents how I and many other crossdressers feel on the inside.

Swell Mel/Dressy Jesse isn’t too concerned with passing as a female but rather is simply happy to get in touch with his feminine side.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this brief display of cross-dressing / transgender humor that you may not have known about or may have forgotten. I suspect that these cards had somewhat of an impact on me as I am able to both enjoy my femme side while still poking healthy fun at it.

Thanks for reading and leave a comment on what you think of these awesome 80s cards!

Strange. I don’t remember Garbage Pail Kids. Of course there’s a lot of stuff I can’t remember anymore…and lot of stuff I don’t wish to remember.

Interesting but overexagurated. Too many people look at what we are in unreal ideas. The cards are a good example of this.

Wow, that really brings back some memories. Can’t believe you still have your cards . I don’t remember these particular cards, but it is interesting to see them. Is this not more of a negative stereotype, though? But I do agree you gotta laugh at yourself. I appreciate the trip down memory lane.
