Over the weekend I visited a beautiful butterfly exhibit with my wife & family, we had a wonderful time. The amount of these creatures floating around in that confined space is staggering and amazing.
Aside from learning a great deal about these majestic insects, I thought about how caterpillars are quite possibly the perfect Transgender metaphor. Of course, I am fully aware that I am by no means the first person to write about this nor will I be the last.
Butterflies, Crossdressers, What’s the Connection?
We all know the story, a caterpillar forms a cocoon and then a short time later emerges as a beautiful butterfly. It is truly one of nature’s most awe-inspiring transformations and very akin to what we in the T-community experience.
In the case of cross-dressers, the metaphor must be tweaked slightly, because the transformation process happens potentially hundreds of times. A transvestite goes from caterpillar to butterfly back to caterpillar and so on and so forth.
I’m a big fan of analogies and metaphors and this one seems to be the ultimate fit for describing everyone on the TG spectrum. Whether the change is physical, mental, emotional, spiritual or some combination thereof, we must always realize that our true beauty lies within and will emerge someday, when the conditions are right.
For Discussion
Have you ever considered yourself a butterfly? Are there other representations in nature that come to mind when you think of yourself?

Caterpillar to Butterfly. What a great metaphor for a crossdresser.
