For most of us, Eddie Izzard needs no introduction. However, for the uninformed, Izzard is arguably the world’s most famous transvestite. He is a successful actor, writer and stand-up comic.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing Eddie in action then you should seek out one of his many comedy specials or check out one of his movies. “Believe” is a wonderfully narrated walk through this man’s life that aims to inspire us all, crossdresser or not.
Transvestite Comic
Though I must admit that Eddie wasn’t always on my comedy radar, I have always appreciated how he has demonstrated the courage to be himself in the face of societal oppression. This movie takes us from his birth to the present, telling the amazing tale of this unique and special person.
I watched this one over the weekend and it inspired me a great deal, I really admire Eddie’s bravery and comedic prowess.

Short Review
This is one that hits home for me, because he shares with us some of the pain and struggles that he has encountered along the way, all while trying to stay energetic, funny and entertaining.
While it ran a *tad* too long in my opinion, this didn’t take away from the overall presentation. It was incredibly refreshing to hear about a transvestite who came out to such wide acceptance and I really love how he mashes his gender presentation together.
This is essentially an audio-visual autobiography. I will definitely add this one to my DVD shelf and pop it in whenever I need a boost of inspiration.

Eddie is a goddess AND hilariously funny too.
I’m just now watching the first season of “The Riches” (available streaming on Net Flix). BRILLIANT material, and the youngest child appears to also be trans (I’m only 3 episodes in). Highly recommended for an original premise that is just as dramatic as comedic, and the acting is top-notch.
Although I’ve questioned his sincerity about cd…I’ve always thought he was one of the smartest comics alive. Very challenging, thought-provoking material. I haven’t seen Believe yet, but it is on my to do list.
When Eddie did the series of marathons for Sport Relief, the BBC followed him around the UK. You may be able to dig a few episodes up on YouTube or iPlayer if you’re lucky. He talks about his life, being trans and of course, comedy. I thought the series was very inspiring.
Thanks for the recommendation, I have always enjoyd Eddie’s work and I look forward to this, too.
