Mainstream: It’s a Boy Girl Thing

by Jessica De Leon on August 3, 2010

Over the weekend my wife and I gathered in front of the TV to watch a couple of movies, one of which was the 2006 romantic comedy “It’s a Boy Girl Thing”. When we were browsing titles, the cover immediately jumped out at me and grabbed my attention.

The box art makes no secret about what this movie is about — it’s not a new formula by any means but one that has a certain amount of appeal — body swapping. In this case it is of the transgender nature and between two people that despise each other.

Woody and Nell are next door neighbors as well as high school classmates, and yet they couldn’t be more different. While Woody is the typical jock, obnoxious, crude and loud, Nell is a model student, reserved and intelligent.

While on a field trip at the local museum, they begin arguing in front of an Aztec statue and that night their spirits magically exchange bodies. Woody is now trapped in Nell’s body and vice versa.

Fun With TG Body Swap

Get ready for the gender stereotypes because this movie is chock full of them. The boy cannot figure out how to put on a bra so he just doesn’t wear one and the girl is bothered by her “morning wood” and doesn’t know how to get rid of it.

These things aside, we actually did enjoy the movie. If your expectations are low and you keep in mind what you’re getting, you probably won’t be disappointed. Each actor does a respectable job playing the other gender and each character grows as the film progresses.

I won’t give away the ending but it was pretty new to me and a little strange to take in. Here is the trailer for “It’s a Boy Girl Thing”.

If you are a Netflix subscriber, as of this writing (August 2010) you can instantly stream this title to your Computer, Nintendo Wii, XBox 360 or Playstation 3

Wasn’t familiar with this title. I must say, I usually don’t watch these kinds of films – having the guy act like a girl loses something for me without the wardrobe – but on your recommendation I will check it out.

I adored this movie. It was so cute! I mean, it was pretty hilarious. Especially when Nell would cry in Woody’s body. Lol. It’s a movie you can watch over and over and it never gets old!
