Keeping Up With Women’s Fashion – Part Two

by Jessica De Leon on October 19, 2010

From Part One:

In the fashion world, hardly anything remains constant. From seasonal trends and personal styles, popular clothing looks refuse to be held in a corner. That is, except for men’s fashion.

Well, for the most part at least. Dress, polo and tees are the everlasting tops and slacks, shorts and denim complete the look. Sure, there are ways to stand-out from the crowd (I try my best) but the majority of men fade into fashion obscurity.

Women’s fashion, on the other hand, offers countless possibilities. Do you take advantage?

Age Appropriateness Means Nothing

First of all, I am a huge believer in age being nothing but a number. I always tell people that you are as young as you feel, and I truly live my life this way. Aside from important responsibilities, we choose how we wish to exist in this world.

There are many in our TG / CD community that prefer dressing in clothing from a certain era, like the 60s, 70s or 80s. Others prefer to adopt the styles and trends of younger or older women.

In my humble opinion, there is nothing wrong with this, in fact it should be emphasized always that you should dress how you want, within local laws of course. Just because someone is 55 doesn’t mean they can’t dress in clothing made for someone who is 25. By the same token, someone who is 35 should be free to dress like someone who is 75, if they so choose.

As I said in Part One, I currently dress like American women in their 20s and 30s, but this was not always the case. Just a few years ago, I preferred to dress like a teenage girl. However, this is no longer my style.

Specific Looks and Outfits

For some of us, fashion and trends get thrown out the window like litter. Instead, certain costumes are preferred. Wedding gowns, school girl outfits and business suits are just a few of the traditional looks preferred by some t-girls.

I plan on writing a whole series dedicated to all the different looks typically present in our community, stay tuned.

Thanks for reading!! :)

I feel you should dress to your body type, not your age. Both what looks good on you and what you feel comfortable wearing.

I am a firm believer also in you are only as old as you feel and when it comes to fashion, everyone should feel free to express themselves any way they see fit and wear whatever they think looks good and makes them happy. I also love keeping up on the latest trends and seeing what’s hot and what’s not in the fashion world. I do know there’s a great website called fashionclub.com where you can get additional info on back-to-school tips and tricks and even what’s in and hot this season. There are even people who’ve started FIDM Fashion Club’s through FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising that have gotten scholarships to go to school there! If you’re into fashion, it may be worth a thought :)

Much of my fashion ideas came from my best friend who helped me purchase my female clothing. We both loved to go to thrift stores just to find one item that suits our fancy. We always had so much to choose from in both styles and colors. I could so easily become a female clothing shopaholic. Did I hear the word SALE??
