Girdles, Corsets & Shapewear For Men?!

by Jessica De Leon on December 14, 2010

We are all familiar with the apparatuses that women squeeze themselves into in order to embody that perfect hourglass figure. We also know that for those of us who were born male even more help may be necessary via padding, boning and cinching.

But what about those men out there who are self-conscious about their protruding beer gut or flapping love handles? Is their a quick-fix solution waiting in the wings to help them look their best for that big social gala? The answer: a surprising and emphatic yes!

Nip It In The Bud!

While surfing channels late one night, a commercial for Slim Ts presented itself to me. What a treat! Shapewear for men! It is a garment that looks like a tank top but is actually a manly corset. Is Spanx behind this? After a little research, I found out that Spanx actually has their own collection of Men’s shapewear.

Who’d of thunk it? Certainly not I! Of course, all of these items are in the form of shirts. Alas, there are no thigh, hip or butt shapers for guys available from these companies.

In traditional advertising fashion all of the pictures are of muscular men who have no need for purchasing these articles of shapewear. Also, the man on the Slim T’s website is holding a basketball, just in case one feels embarrassed while browsing for the perfect masculine bodysuit. Don’t worry, this guy wears ‘em, and he’s an athlete!

Do these macho girdles work? Who knows, but the commercial assures you that you will look firmer, younger and more well toned. No exercise required! They also promise no gym membership.

The best thing about them? No one can tell that you’re wearing them? But that doesn’t mean you can’t dish the dirt over mimosas with your friends ;) .

HA! A few months ago my Hubz purchased a Spanx t-shirt, and when he wasn’t looking I tried it on and I must say, it felt very slimming…but uncomfortable. Oh, the things we go through for beauty.

See how the men are trying to move into our territory. This could be our wakeup call for our News Year resolution to get in shape. I try to make this a life style change in how I eat.. Dont just cover it up, do something about it. Everything looks better when you make an effort to get in shape. Not everyone falls into this catagory. There are hormonal and heridity factors that affect your ability to lose weight.
