Troubled Congressman Anthony Weiner has been in the news a lot lately, and not for anything good. First, pictures surfaced of his, er, last name. Now, the National Enquirer has leaked photos of a college-aged crossdressing Weiner.
In the photo, featured on the current issue’s cover, the New York-based politician is showcased strutting his stuff for the camera in a fancy white brassiere and black pantyhose.
Another picture allegedly features the Democrat getting ready for a dip in an alluring women’s bikini. However, in order to see that photo, one must purchase a copy of the long-running and very reputable publication.
The pictures were taken by a college buddy back in 1982, perhaps after a Madonna listening party.

It’s not just the idea that every guy who ever put on an item of female clothing is instantly considered a cross dresser (or worse) that is bothersome here. It’s the idea that you can’t be a cross dresser without being a pervert. And, that, clearly is the aim of this cover – The Enquirer is saying that Wiener is a pervert and here is just more proof of that fact.
Of course, just the act of putting the clothes on is sufficient to make the charges. No one takes note of the absolute total lack of care in how he wears the clothes. Because, after all, everyone knows that transvestites are just deviant who want to wear women’s clothes for gay sex and masturbation and who don’t EVER care about actually LOOKING like a proper female. (No offense to those people who may actually identify in that way, I’m just pointing out that we aren’t all like that and that it’s prejudicial to assume we are).
Had Wiener chosen to do something better with his time and done something worthy of winning, say, a Nobel Prize, would these photos have been presented as proof of his tender heart and warmth? Would someone have made the argument that his openness in expressing his femininity was essential to his greatness as a man and was key to his personal success? No. But those same pictures can obviously be used to prove he’s a pervert, sick, twisted, sexually broken, and possibly dangerous. Notwithstanding the fact that it is widely accepted that The Enquirer is a trash rag full of garbage, the implication that cross dressers are inherently deviant is clear and still damaging to the public perception of the transgendered.
