3rd Rock from the Sun is a sitcom that I enjoyed thoroughly back in the late nineties when it originally aired on NBC. The series focuses on four extraterrestrial beings who come to Earth in order to conduct research on the human race.
In order to do that, however, they all must assume human identities and occupy human bodies. Security officer Sally Solomon (Kristen Johnston) is given the body of a female, a huge source of humor in the show.
You see, the Solomons’ alien race does not distinguish between genders, so Sally has all the typical traits of a security officer: masculine, brash and tough. This is highly contrasted by her sexy and alluring female body.
As a teenage fan of the show, I remember connecting to Sally’s character in a sense because while her outward appearance was very feminine, her personality was very macho. Several episodes focus on her learning how to be a woman — fashion, makeup, grooming and decorum. In many senses she was just like any other crossdresser.
I am currently re-watching the sitcom as it has been added to Netflix Instant Streaming, one of my main entertainment sources.
While not transgender in the typical sense, Sally deserves to be mentioned in the discussion.

I also love this show and have been working my way thru it on Netflix. You must also mention the episode where Dick poses as a woman to infiltrate Mary’s Women’s Studies group, and the episode where Harry must pose as their landlady, Mrs Dubcek, when they inadvertently knock her out and her old friends arrive for a visit. Great show, great cast, wonderful writing.
This was one of the must watch shows at the time and very witty about human stupidity but Sally was the star.
If I remember the character she was a male warrior in a female human body at first sally hate being a female. But grew to like it in time. I also remember that she asked for a new human body a male one. But if I remember it right that dick and sally bodies where switched dick was in sally’s body and sally in dick’s body. Because of request she asked several months or a year or so before the switch.
