A couple of weeks ago, I caught Dwayne Johnson’s family comedy Tooth Fairy on DVD. It was mildly enjoyable, though I must admit I wasn’t expecting much from it.
Johnson, better known as “The Rock” and famous for his superstar status in the wrestling world of the WWE, sheds his über-masculine persona to assume a role traditionally reserved for women. For one scene he is even dressed in pink!
Tooth Fairy centers around Derek Thompson (Johnson), a rough and rugged minor league hockey player known for his devastating hits and brash persona. He steals his a dollar (left for the tooth fairy) from his girlfriends daughter which lands him in hot water with the tooth fairies. As penance, he is forced to work as one of them for two weeks.
Throughout the bulk of the movie that his character spends as a fairy he is outfitted with a more masculine ensemble, the initial visit to the fairy headquarters featured Dwayne in a dress.
I wasn’t able to get screen captures myself but found these two photos.
For me, this was the best part of the movie as it is beyond awesome to see someone like The Rock be in a pink dress as a fairy while remaining completely confident in his masculinity and image.
