Portlandia: Fred Armisen in Drag

by Jessica De Leon on January 26, 2012

Portlandia is a quirky sketch comedy show on IFC. Now in its second season, the series features Fred Armisen (of Saturday Night Live fame) and Carrie Brownstein playing a variety of characters. Because they are the main performers, this IFC Original frequently  calls for Armisen to do drag.

You can check out some of the sketches after the jump.

This sketch, entitled “Harajuku Girls” features Brownstein and Armisen playing Japanese girls at a coffee shop.

The snooty Feminist Bookstore owners all but reject a customer (Aubrey Plaza).

This sketch features the two Portlandiars playing a husband and wife.

While I enjoy the sketches my wife does not, so you may need to appreciate dry humor or be a comedy nerd to really get into the show. In any case, you can check out Portlandia Fridays on IFC at 10/9 Central.

My wife and I started watching this show through Netflix, and we loved it so much that we watched all of season 1 in one sitting. Very funny stuff, especially since I spend about 8 years in Portland. Looking forward to catching up on season 2.

It’s a pretty sweet show, and trust me, it makes a LOT more sense if you live or have visited Portland.

Does your wife see too much or too little of herself in the Portland-types populating the sketches?

“…Because they are the main performers, this IFC Original frequently calls for Armisen to do drag…”

Yeah, it’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it! ;-)
