It is pretty common knowledge that there are plenty of wars going on in Africa, but not many are keen to the knowledge that soldiers in Liberia have taken up the practice of cross-dressing as well. As you can see, an unidentified soldier in the photo above is wielding a dangerous assault weapon and wearing a lovely bridal gown.
At first glance, it may seem that this soldier is simply showcasing his penchant for women’s fashion. However, upon further research one finds out that this is a widely practiced activity in Liberia. The question is, why?
Well, in the soldiers’ own words, they feel that cross-dressing helps to intimidate enemies while also boosting their immunity to bullets. Because the women’s wear and accessories help them to assume dual identities, they are able to “confuse the enemy’s bullets”.

An interesting but scary vision, the cross-dressing soldier is common in this part of the world where, sadly, war is a way of life. We can only hope for a better future for these folks.
In the meanwhile, it has to be said. Isn’t she lovely?

I can understand why.. Its kinda like how the Vikings padded their clothes and acted extremely bar baric to intimidate their foe’s, when in fact they were just as civil or more so than most others from the same era (minus the non showering of course).
its sad that they live in a state of war. Places like that make me really appreciate what type of life us ladies have here in America. We don’t have to worry if our outfit matches our gun, it only has to match our purse
I almost to work there back in 1979. thankfully I had better sense. But to those “solidiers”really thugs who came out the bush with no modern education it makes sense to be two person in one. altho I don;t think a good rifleman gives a damn about all pretty clothes andd stuff, one shot one kill. That what I was taught. also taught if they are shooting at you, shoot back and don’t miss.
